I just wanted to point anyone who's interested in the topic to an analysis I just put online of Skip Williams "How To Create a Monster" article (from Dragon #276).
In short -- the tables in that article have a detectable flaw; the majority of monsters in the Monster Manual fall significantly outside (by a factor of x2 higher) the specified Hit Dice ranges in the article. I end up suggesting a nice, clean revision to those tables which thereby syncs up with the actual Hit Dice numbers in the MM.
The article's here: www.superdan.net/dndmisc/monster_hit_dice.html
