Our holiday office party is today. I'm not expecting that sort of thing, because it's actually at our office, as opposed to a restaurant or other location, but who knows? There will be booze.
Please tell me someone will pee in the stream. If not someone else, you should do it.

It amazes me that the practice of having a company party with booze is still widely accepted. I would think the sexual harassment issues would go through the roof.

We just have a holiday pot-luck lunch where I work ...

Same here. I've never been to or known any one who has been to a company party where alcohol was served.

We need to switch offices. My company party consisted of dinner at a local restaurant (13 of our office staff and their spouses), we made casual conversation, and ate an "okay" meal of chicken fried steak or grilled chicken breast. We then did a white elephant gift exchange, where we drew numbers for the order. Then, we exchanged the white elephants. After that, we gave our designated employee our $10 gift and we went home.

I'd think I'd rather have the alcohol and bad dancing.

My company doesn't even have a party. We aren't allowed to spend any company money on any kind of "team events".

I'm not complaining, though. They give us the week between Christmas and New Years off.

Still, my buddies tell me about some pretty cool (and pretty humorous) company parties they've been to.

I'm my company's only employee.... The parties are out of control.

The appropriate term is "off da hook." :D

I suspect that it still goes on more often than I would suspect. I just think that, no matter how many rules get in place, people will always find a way to party around them.

No kidding. Under previous management, I am told our premises used to be bad. Bad as in "if you see a red rag tied to the base of the ladder gantry, don't go up there" level of bad.

Main reason I don't go to any of our Christmas parties is because I don't really connect that well to my co-workers. They're acquaintences, and really good people (couldn't ask for a better workplace), but 9/10ths of them are in their 40's to 60's, every one of them has kids, and about half of them even have grandkids! Their music is 50's rock & roll to the Doors and Elvis, and I feel very out of place there even if they offer hospitality as best they can. Luckily, I have an excuse - I don't live in town, so no one bats an eye if I don't wanna drive 40 miles for a christmas bash. :)

OK, yeah, that is bad. If it gets to the College Dorm Advance Warning System level in the workplace, where someone actually took the time to figure out and implement a flag notice, then, yeah, it's bad.

Brutal. Bah! Humbug! ;) (I wouldn't wanna drive 40 miles for an office party, either).

Here is a funny conversation between a wasted coworker and the husband of a manager:

Drunk Girl: I love her, she is amazing!
Husband: Good, she is a wonderful woman
Drunk Girl: I love her you know, i mean really love her, she is the best.
Husband: Ok
Drunk Girl: She is just..soo...i love her...love everything about her.
Husband: OK
Girl: i mean i don't love her like that!i mean..i love working for her..errr

it might also be a byproduct of the overworked and hardcore work culture in NYC consulting side...
