No bookmarks.

That really does suck. It's mystifying that they wouldn't include them, really.
Not mystifying really. Adding bookmarks takes time and energy that could be spent elsewhere, and from what we've heard the D&D webteam is a bit overworked. You and I might feel it's time well spent, but the WotC web guys haven't yet prioritized it.

I agree it would be nice to have them, but I'm not overly bummed they aren't there. I do hope they decide to use them in later issues.

But when this is the first issue and you are trying to make a good impression I would think that you would make the extra effort.

Heh. I think the opportunity to make a good first impression for the online magazines has long past. They still have a chance to get their act together and improve (since it's still free and all), but the first impression they have left me with is "haphazard" (at best).

I certainly wouldn't pay for it now.

:\

Adding bookmarks takes reading the document through, and deciding where you want them. That's the most time consuming part. Adding bookmarks is rather quick and easy.

Or if you can't do it, leave it in the hands of someone who can do it. In print even. ;)

No real surprise here, is there?

WotC continues to show us that we should not spend money on their DI. They can't even be bothered to bookmark a pdf. They still zip pdfs. They put useless, ink consuming art on the low res (print friendly?) version.

Again, I'm not surprised. They just weren't ready for this. So far, still not paying a penny for this service.

If you make it a private project it is acceptable.

Technically, by their rules and according to their customer service when asked specifically about this, Lulu does not find the practice of publishing someone else's copyrighted materials legal or acceptable, even for private projects. However, truth be told, Lulu is unable to monitor for it, and so people do it anyway. However, if you are caught doing it, their Membership Agreement allows them the legal means to prosecute you for the violations.

Personally, I don't recommend you do it, but if you are going to do it anyway, I'd suggest that you not post anything about it, in the event that it should ever become an issue later. Why leave evidence lying around, right? :)

There, I've done my civic duty.

They still zip pdfs.

Now don't get me wrong... I'm not rushing to the defense of this online Dragon, which I loathe, or the DI, which I loathe even more, but criticize things that make sense. The bookmarks issue is kinda silly, as I said above, and Wizards zipping the files is another. If everyone could be sensible enough to right click-save as, or to use Firefox's PDF download, sure, zipping the files would be pointless. But not everyone is using those options. Folks just click on the PDF and view it on-screen, which makes things difficult at WotC's end. They don't zip up the file just to be mean.
