Complete arcane excerpt discussion

Well, maybe it makes better lava... :)
just joking...

Polymorph, as always, is the wide-ranging winner of creative play.
Rock to Mud, Rock to Lava, these have good flavor, but are essentially subsets of Polymorph and thus should have some advantage in area covered, speed, spell level, or *something*

Green Star Adept is to arcanists what the hierophant is to divine casters: The perfect class for epic characters! At epic levels effective casterlevel is all that matters, since you don't gain new spells anyway. You loose out on 3 bonus feats, but the gain should definitely worth it!

Heh, at least there wasn't such a spell from any WotC books... :)

Well, since 8th level polymorph object lets you do all that 9th level rock to magma can do *and lots more stuff*...

Unless there is a whole lot extra behind the name which hasn't yet been revealed (but it is probably based on the 20d6 damage from immersion in magma from the DMG) it seems that a higher level spell should be *less* specific/limited than a lower level spell.

No?

Actually... are we really sure you could do the same with Polymorph Any Object? :uhoh: I thought PAO works only with objects so you cannot target the ground and turn it into lava. A special use of PAO allows the caster to replicate the effects of other spells, including Rock->Mud and Mud->Rock, but those don't include the new (and higher level) Rock->Lava obviously.

Was this Green Star Adept printed somewhere previously?

Not to my knowledge... I saw it for the first time when WotC posted it's CA preview, and they refered to it as a new PrC. In what seems to be an ocean of revised material, I might add! :\

AU and the CBoEM have anti-SR spells, too.

Draconomicon has lower spell resistance (Clr 4, Sor/Wiz 4) which lowers a creature's SR by your caster level (max 15). :)
