Complete Arcane - Whirling Blade

This is also a very broad statement saying that any attacks by spells ignore damage reduction. Notice the mention that "even nonmagical fire" is included. Hence, Conjuration (Creation) spells that allow no save and no SR qualify for this clause, even if the result or effect is nonmagical.

"Even nonmagical fire" is included under 'energy attacks', not 'spells'. A Conjuration (Creation) spell that allows no save and no SR and creates nonmagical fire indisputably ignores DR, but that's because it's an energy attack as much as because it's a spell.

Would you consider a creature Called by a Planar Ally spell to ignore DR? It's an Effect spell, and it's not a Summoned monster...

Point taken, I misread.

That is the same situation as the faithful hound. The spell doesn't affect the target creatures directly, so DR.

Would you however allow DR for black tentacles? Or the cave-in resulting from a transmute rock to mud?

Exactly. So we now have examples of the Effects generated by Conjuration [Summoning], Conjuration [Calling], and Conjuration [Creation], all of which are subject to DR because it is the effect that is attacking, not the spell.

Based on that, I'd assume that Black Tentacles would also be subject to DR.

The cave-in from Transmute Rock to Mud is essentially identical to using Unseen Servant to pull a lever that drops a ceiling on someone. If DR applies to 'falling mud', it should apply when the falling mud is the result of transmuting a ceiling. It's not the spell dropping the mud on your head, it's gravity!
