Complete "Ecology of" listing?

Whizbang Dustyboots

Gnometown Hero
Before I send off a spec letter to Dragon magazine proposing doing some ecology of article ideas I've got, I'm sure I saw a listing out there, somewhere in the ether, of all the ecology articles that have come before.

My Google kung fu is apparently weak, though, since I can't find the link now. Anyone know of such a listing?

Ok, I'll bite, what exactly was the ecology of the Flumph?
"The Ecology of the Flumph" was the fourth to feature the Monster Hunters Association, a group of (mostly) wizards who hunt down unusual creatures specifically to make magic items from their remains. The footnotes in the article hinted at possible genetic ties between the two known types of flumph (the standard white flumph and the spellcasting green flumph) and other creatures such as bellabras ("tanglers") and even grell. It also specified that the green spellcasting flumph is the "normal" type, while the white flumph is a deviant mutant offspring that breeds true.

Note that "Stirge" is listed twice (issues 83 and 239) - that was due to an editorial oversight, the editor of Dragon at that time having given approval for a second author to write an "Ecology of the Stirge" without realizing that the stirge had already received that honor many years previously.

So, Whizbang Dustyboots, which monsters were you looking at writing up?

Johnathan

I love those old articles, and I am always making little ecology notes about monsters for my own setting, which is why I don't think there is anything wrong with their being duplicate ecologies - what might not work for one setting might spark ideas for another - as different authors/DMs have different outlooks on the same creature.

For example, in Aquerra manticores are the descendants of old line of men who made some fearsome and horrifics pacts with some fiends. I slapped the fiendish template on them and gave them a few levels of psionics (as the ancient line of men were latently psiconic) and boom a new look and feel for an old and familiar monster making it unique to the world.

One of the two I was looking at was the Behir. I'm not sure I grasp the logic of an article published 10 years ago negating another one from being released, but we'll see what happens when I send in the spec letter. It's their magazine, and not mine, after all.

The other one isn't on the list, so I don't want to spoil it until they tell me no.
:D
