Complete Mage artists

I loved that picture from the moment I saw it. I just wish they hadn't changed her (the master specialist sample character) into an enchanter. She was an illusionist originally, and I think that pic is much more illusionisty than enchantery.
Yep, I must admit that one look at that picture and the caption had originally convinced her that she was a Master Specialist in Illusion (shadowstuff pet and all) . That then is what I used to determine that she was a gnome for sure and not a halfling. Weird that they changed that, since illusion is such a 'gnome' thing. Of course. Change the dragon from a shadowstuff pet to a negative energy wraith dragon and you could have a neat necromancer Praes Thanatos Master Specialist with that picture too. But definitely doesn't look like an enchanter to me.

I really like the Ultimate Magus:

Is it just me, or do the gnome lady's proportions look a little off for a gnome? I thought she was a dwarf at first.

I really like the male elf by Deschamps.

Looks more like William O'Connor than Elmore in that illustration, but I can see a bit of similarity.

Overall the art was decent, just needs more Jason Engle.

Everything needs more Jason Engle.

Hell yeah!

I've always found Engle seriously overrated, but then I said the same thing about Steve Prescott and I've come to really enjoy his work.

Eva Widermann did some great work in the AoW adventures for Dungeon. I'm glad to see her getting more work with WotC now. :)

My guess is, they changed it because the sample character for the nightmare spinner is also an illusionist, and they didn't want two. I guess I can understand it, but I'm still not crazy about it. I mean, even her quote in the "Hook" section is obviously illusion-oriented.
