I have to say that new stuff for the warlock is the only real draw for me about this book.

I for one welcome new flavorful prestige classes. You want the quantity, we already got a wealth of PrCs. Let's go for the quality.

biggest problem with that idea is that when you don't get the quality, you still don't have the quantity.

I'm not saying every PrC from Compleate Warrior is a hit, but what if they only have the eight worst PrCs in it. Would you still feel the same way? Complete Psion underwhelmed me with it's measely PrCs as each one of them would've had to have been a hit out of the ballpark and well... without having the book in front of me I can tell you that there was a cool sounding Ebon Saint and that it's.

An Eberron book dealt with this, but only in a minor way, IIRC. Presumably, it was Magic of Eberron, but I'm too lazy to go and check. There were also a couple of spells that worked on this principle, IIRC.

Races of Eberron introduced MINDSET spells, spells that if prepared (and you had to prepare them, sorry spontaneous casters) you gained a bonus to something. Example: a mindset spell that gave you a suggestion-like ability could give you a +2 to bluff while you had it prepared. When you cast the spell, the mindset went away.

It was a neat idea, and except for 4-5 spells in Races of Eberron, I'd not seen it used again.

I don't really mind the basic idea of devoting a portion of your power to a persistant effect, but I think it is a very poor match for the Vancian system.

Well since Psion brought it up...Ari is there any link/similiarities to the "reserve" ability and that of Locus feat?

(Yes Psion I liked Locus feats too. I wish there had been a few more.)

btw Psion/Al, do you think maybe if it's offered, there might be a way for your favorite non-WotC class (Eldritch Weaver) to maybe be more magical perhaps?

I'm just of the mind that if WotC is going to make a Complete Arcane II, why not just call it Complete Arcane II? It's not like they haven't done it already with the DMG, PHB and MM (three times over).

Random guess... They are using Complete Mage so that no other d20 publishers can use it...

Doubt it. If nothing else, I think a publisher can always claim that Mage is a common use word and therefore not subject to being copyright. They might have a harder time with complete but only if they use mage with it.
