You have GOT to be kidding me. :p

Yes, very much so. ;) Still, it would be interesting if WotC did something with their NPC classes. I'm not sure what, but something. A 20th level Commoner is still a rather humorous/ironic point, after all.

Personally, I'd rather let some third-party publisher do this.

a 20th level commoner armed only with a scythe and a leather jerkin could likely take down a lvl2-3 party no trouble. interesting, eh? would likely be bleeding profusely by that point, but still.

I think they have, haven't they? I thought I recalled hearing about some Mongoose product or products about this...anyway, I just think it'd be interesting to see what WotC churned out about the idea, since I think they produce interesting stuff most of the time.

I made a level 12 comoner in my campaign. Human, 104 old... With -6 in each physical ability score, she has...12 hit point. Her attack bonus is +3 or +4. But she has high int, cha and wis.

I think it's becoming more probable that this book is the 3.5e "Combat and Tactics" style book Ed Stark mentioned would be coming out later this year.

A'koss.

With all due respect, I'd rather they do a different book project than detailing NPC classes, like say Kara-Tur.

Well heck, no arguement there. I miss the original Oriental Adventures setting also, but why couldn't they do both? I'd rather they do Kara-Tur than NPC Classes, and I'd rather they do both than just one. :D

Agreed.

If it really came down to it, 4 core-class books would be nice on the subject if done right. There are other speculation threads on this so I won't get into that here...

It would be nice? Au contraire- it is nice. FFG finished the line a few months ago, and they did a better job of it than WotC did with their class handbooks... :P

No, I don't think they should do both, what with the reduced staff and all. And last time I checked, this is a subsidiary corporation. To publish an NPC class book may be profitable for any small third-party d20 publisher but not feasible for Wizards, unless they are purposely trying to drive their business into the same hole as TSR.

Forgive me if I'm thinking like a "suit."
