Computer at the game table?

If you have a dual monitor setup, you can drag things onto the second monitor. Just drag and drop like you would anything on your desktop and you'll see it disappear from your monitor and appear on the second monitor.

I have the dual monitor setup. I dragged a program and then maximize it; it snaps to the second screen, but my question would be what program is best for this. I'm using the Windows Viewer (second screen) and My Pictures folder (first screen). If I double click a picture (thumbnail) from the 1st screen it pops up on the 2nd screen. Practical, but I'm sure there's a better way, especially since I really don't want to leave the image up there for so long. The only way I can see this is by turning the TV off.

Is there anyone who has a better way to manage this? Thanks.

Not without buying software specifically made to do it.

What softwares would you recommend? Thanks :)

I use IrfranView (http://www.irfanview.com/) Its free. I maximize it on the 2nd monitor and then just drag imageas to it. I can drag icons from folders I see on my monitor, I can also drag images from my web browser to it.

I also like that I can just click on the box for it on the task bar and it will minimize. That way I can switch the players monitor between a map, and images.

When you run more recent versions of Powerpoint on a two-monitor setup, the slideshow will automatically display to the second monitor by default. That might be what you need.

Otherwise, irfanview running full-screen is a good option, but you can basically use anything by just dragging it to the second screen. Keep the DM's version (in a separate window) on your own screen.

I use eTools for most generation, npc, character, treasure, etc, I use excel for combat management, I have a local copy of the Hyperlinked d20 SRD, and I have an access database that has a master index for everyone of my books.

Same as above, except after fiddling with some home-grown excel spreadsheets I went back to pen/paper/cards for combat management. I use the computer as a reference aid during the game (SRD, pdf books, etc.), and use eTools to prep NPCs and monsters before the game. During the game I have it sitting to my side instead of in front of me (I found I couldn't see what was happening on the battle mat otherwise).

Myself I use Etools (every session), Dundjinni, the excellent xp generator 4.01 by Arcady and others and the treasure generator 2.10 by Jamis Buck.

I find the Laptop a handy tool since I usually make up very large portions of the adventures as we go along. And without the ability to change my texts I would get confused. :P

I am just starting to use DM Genie, and will finally have my players' PCs loaded this week. I also like NBOS's Inspiration Pad Pro for taking name generation, but I am also looking into WikiPad form notes. I saw another really cool tree-based note taking program, but I can't remember where I saw it.

I have bought and tried almost all the software tools, but never really went full firce until DM Genie. Roleplaying Master is good, and obviously PC Gen is good too. I also have tried Meta Creator for creating NPCs.

I have both Fractal Mapper and Dundjinni, but it takes SOOOO much time to learn them that I just haven't gotten there yet. I suppose I need to just jump and see what happens when I fall.

I also load my modules (I am running one that is in both PDF and print) and copy/paste text to send to Players (who also use laptops). I need a cool messaging program that I can send maps, notes, etc... secretly. I may look into ScreenMonkey.

Any other thoughts?
