[computer] Ia! Ia! A virus is eating my .exe files! Please help!

I got a similar virus. I don't think it had the same name, but it deleted a file caleld "loadpe.com", which I am led to believe is a file required to open up any .exe file at all. Ironically enough, it had corrupted my system for months without my knowing, and when I finally got around to installing to more serious antivirus software on a whim, it was Norton's overzealous butchery of my system that really ruined it. A case of the cure being worse than the disease, eh? In any case, I'm still dealing with the fact that I have no internet connection and both my CD-ROM drives aren't being recognized. And with that in mind, it isn't easy archiving 10GB of mp3s before you format your entire hard drive. Good luck, I know I still need it.

What operating system are you running? :D There are some tricks that might help get you up and working again. That said, do you have a second hard drive you can attach to your computer to back up those MP3s? Even one you can borrow from a friend?

Tsu - Did Seri help solve your problem? :) I never heard how things worked out, I was busy helping someone else with HER virus problem. :p

Okay, I went on anti-virus.com, and it fixed the problem. AND Norton un-quarantined everything!

However... there's another issue, which deserves another thread.

Well, originally, I was running windows 98. When the virus hit, the only thing we had around with all the cd-keys and whatnot was windows 2k, so now I get to pick and choose which operating system I boot up with. And no, I've got no extra hard drive. Any helpful tips?

well, windows98 has a wonderful program called System File Checker. you access it by going start - run - "SFC". It'll scan your system files and look for changes, and extract files from the windows 98 cd that are missing or need to be replaced. I don't know of any windows 2000 program that's similar.
