Concerns of the Mighty (Haltern group: this is out of bounds!)

Hi folks,

recently I checked the FR Netheril campaign setting from good old AD&D times. There is a passage of a conversation between Sass Tam from Thay and the ultralich Larloch. Larloch resides somewhere at the Sword Coast, and IIRC, he is somewhere in Tethyr or Amn. The 3.0 FRCS has no infos on him, AFAIK.

Now I'm searching some stats and background for Larloch, because the party (all level 19) has attrackted the interesse of some mighty guys of the southern Sword Coast, especially between Amn and Calimshan.
The party wants to clean the ruins of Castle Tethyr of the undead residing there (and I won't stop them from trying it :] ). The castle is ruled by a powerful female lich called Dlatha Faenor of Beshaba (clr 18 / hie 1) who tried to stop the group from helping the crown prince to become the new king of Tethyr. She was forced to retreat after fighting the PCs two times outside the castle and now seeks for revenge and new allies against the adventurers.

Larloch seems to be a good candidate...

Any infos will be appreciated.

Larloch is detailed in the 3.0/3.5? 'Lords of Darkness' FR supplement on page 161/162. He is detailed as being a Lich Wiz20/Epic12, complete with a picture of the guy...

Ouch, he would kick the a$$e$ of the adventurers... :] Hrm, but that's what I want ("There's always a bigger fish." - Jedi saying).

Thanx Whisper72!

Larloch stays exclusively in Warlock Crypt (which is north of Balder Gate and therefore, well north of Amn/Tethyr) and seems to have no real interest in the outside world but you can play him or place him any way you like.

However, a word of caution - Larloch could kill a party of 25th level people without breaking a sweat by himself. Ed Greenwood states that Larloch was designed to make parties humble and therefore, designed to be nigh unbeatable). Getting to him will be a problem since Warlock Crypt is a necropolis with all manner of undead. And Larloch is personally served by no less than 12 high level liches.

Now, your party is in Tethyr which is the stomping ground of the Twisted Rune, a cabal of high level undead. They would be a more appropiate group to oppose the party. Information on the Twisted Rune can be found in Empires of the Shining Seas, Lands of Intrigue and Lords of Darkness

Hmm, that's a completely new info for me. But it sounds quite good. I have two AD&D background books for Tethyr: Lands of Intrigue and The Desert Kingdoms (well, it's a translation of the German title: Die Wüstenreiche).
I'm quite sure that the Twisted Rune was not described in AD&D LoI, but I'll check again.

Hopefully I'll get Lords of Darkness within the next week.

Thanks Black Moria!

OK, finally I checked Lords of Darkness on the Twisted Rune.
These guys are REALLY tough. IIRC, the most powerful of them (liches with about 30 levels of arcane classes and epic powers) can compete with Larloch :]
Although the Rune concentrates their operations on Calimshan, it seems they're interested in playing with the rulers of Amn and Tethyr as well, using their agents to do the important jobs and remain uncovered. Adventurers advising the monarch may be somewhat disturbing the game...

That's what I was looking for.

Thanks again!
