Confessions of a full time Wizard confession

Appleseeth

First Post
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but did anyone else notice that in the latest confessions article Sally mentions a PHB 2 leader class with a pet? My guess is that it's at least primal power source, like some sort of spirit shaman, shuffling his/her spirit around the board to help out the team.

Let the speculation begin!

I do hope they can give us a good "conjuror" class.
I loved playing a magician in Everquest, and I miss my elemental pets!
*hugs epic Jibober* :p

Pet classes in CRPGs and MMOs are direct takes of conjurors and necromancers from D&D etc.
Actually a very interesting, but complicated play style, as you had to account for the vagueries of your pet...back in earlier days of Everquest, "pets" were a damned nuisance, causing a lot of problems due to lousy pathing in the environment, aggroing other creatures needlessly, breasking hypnoitic effects etc. Ick.
Thus only skilled folk were allowed to use them on "raids" (lot of folk fighting an epic creature, lot of complexity that dumb pets could screw up).

The Sha'ir of Al-Quadim is tad different but also falls under a conjuror-style of play, though his "pet" is about getting him spells, than direct combat, IIRC?

One of the fun aspects of a pet class, is that without their pet, they are weak, so you had to take care of your "jibober". The dual apsect is also good for dealing with a couple of tasks at the same time.

I never liked the way 3rd ed made clerical casters the supreme necromancers, as that doesn't jibe with fantasy lore, where arcane-types are the masters of the undead (at least, in creating them, especially new types).

Even though it had hints of Players Handbook II class, reading her drunken rambling wasnt worth it.

I enjoy her writing. There aren't enough female gamers in our hobby who have the intelligence and confidence to express themselves in words effectively, AND have a fun personality, AND choose to be openly and shamelessly feminine. It's very refreshing, and is a type of communication that we rarely have a chance to see in our specialized little community.

I'd welcome someone like her into my gaming group in a heartbeat.

But, to each his own, I suppose.

I hate it. It comes off as someone trying TOO HARD to be funny and witty, instead of actually being funny and witty.

I hate to say it, but sometimes it comes off as airhead.

I agree more women in teh hoby is nice, I know more than a few, and they are feminine when they want to be. But its nothing like this.

*shrug* to each their own, as you say.

For the record I find her style to be quite witty but what is happening with ENWorld, there are now a couple of posts that are older than my previous post, that were not there when I posted last.

This is a surprising de-evolution of this thread. I was expecting more guesses at what the new class might be, and less writer bashing, which kind of comes off as sexist. I don't have a special appreciation for Sally's writing, but someone must like it, because she is getting paid for it.

At the very least this is good hint to watch her articles for further news on new classes, especial the leader one.

Second guess at new class: Bear-Tosser, primal class who carries tiny bears around with him/her, and throws them at people, and depending on the power, the bear either helps or harms the target.
