Confused about throwing weapons

I'm a bit confused about the rules on thrown weapons. This means not just weapons designed for throwing (like bolas, and maybe daggers?), and also improvised throwing weapons (like a longsword!). I imagine that STR is the relevant ability, but what are the rules about attack, range, and damage?

If it has a range increment, you can throw it up to 5x the increment. So a spear (20 ft increment) can be thrown up to 100 feet, but penalties will apply - less than 20 feet, no penalty. 20 feet or more, -2; 40 feet or more, another -2; until at 100 feet, you're at a total of -10 (5 full range increments).

It's a ranged attack, so you use Dex to modify the attack roll; you also add your Str modifier to damage.

If you're throwing a weapon with no range increment - like a longsword - you take a -4 penalty, and treat is as a range increment of 10 feet. The critical is always 20/x2 in this case. If your improvised thrown weapon is a light or one-handed weapon, it requires a standard action to throw... so you can't throw two longswords in one round. If it's a two-handed weapon - throwing a greataxe, say - it's a full round action to throw.
