Confusion spell and AoO

Good Evening / Afternoon

In last nights game the party were fighting a Devourer, which cast confusion of two party members, while in melee with them.

The confusion rolls for one character indicated "Attack nearest creature" The cleric in question had already attacked that round, but would he be entitled to an AoO as the Devourer walked strait past him? especially as the Devourer was the nearest opponent at that time.

Any comment welcome

I'd say yes. I read "attack nearest creature" to mean "treat nearest creature as an enemy," so the cleric would take an AoO as the devourer moved past.

Note that if "nearest creature" was another party member, I'd still make the cleric take that AoO.
