Congrats Vancouver!

Just do what Utah did and bribe the commission :D Cheaper than actually going through all the hoops, don'tchaknow. Well, unless you get busted. Sometimes.

Yay Vancouver!

Just my luck, I will be heading over to live in Vancouver starting this summer, but will (most likely) end up leaving town before the Olympics. Bugger.

Ah well. Yay Vancouver!

To answer Mark's question, I'm sickened by Vancouver's "winning" The Olympics.

Our Provincial government has cried poor ever since they came into office, cutting education (though they claimed they wouldn't) cutting healthcare (though they claimed they wouldn't) and cutting taxes to the rich (while running up the largest deficit in our provinces history--the very issue they came into power opposing)

They have cut funding to every single facet of our Province that doesn't benefit rich, fatcat, real estate developers 9which is the background from which the current governement draws it's membership).

Yet after cutting Education, Health Care, Unemployment Insurance, Pensions for the elderly, tearing up binding contracts with unions, privatizing everyting from toll freeways that were supposed to be toll-free after they had paid for themselves, privatizing health care services and just a host of other crap....they manage to come up with 400 million dollars to aid in the frickin' Olympic bid...largely because it will require a new freeway to be built from the city to the chi-chi ski resort.

Yay Olympics. I almost welcome terrorism.

I couldn’t agree more, TB. For me, this event is much more of a “Yea Toronto”. As it totally sewers the chance of a summer games here for the foreseeable future, I won’t have to go through that bit of outrage. I was already furious with OUR Provincial government for trying to get the Olympics, for exactly the same reasons. Still, best wishes to those who will enjoy seeing the games, or whose business will benefit.

Word. ;)

You know, my commute to Scarborough is already too long -- can't even begin to imagine what it'd be like during an olympics. Really, if the event came to T.O., we'd plan to be elsewhere during that time.

Of course, I still support 300,000 people coming to see the greatest musical act of all time....

... THE FLAMING LIPS!!! Whoot!

Wow, T-Bill. You paint quite a different picture. Well, I will hope for the best though I am less enthused about the situation.

Heh, the Olympics in Toronto, that would be funny. Unless all the Canadian athetes wore Maple Leaf jerseys, the natives and local media would probably just ignore it.

So, yeah, that's one more good thing about the Winter games going to Vancouver: no Summer Games in T.O.
