Connected Compasses (kind of)

SnowleopardVK

First Post
Hey hey. I and my party just found a new magic item (or maybe it's considered a pair of magic items... I dunno) and we're trying to brainstorm creative uses of them.

What we have is essentially a pair of compasses that point at each other instead of north. When they're together they act kind of like a Share Thoughts spell between two people if one is holding either half. It also seems like a thought can be stored in either half, which can then be received by a holder later when the halves are connected (we got a thought from the previous owner when we first reunited the halves), but thought-storing seems to require additional magic that we don't have access to.

So far we mostly use it when someone stealthy scouts ahead. They get half and the ones who hang back get the other half, that way we can keep track of each other.

We also used it in town once to help two lovebirds who each couldn't spit it out share their true thoughts.

How big are the compasses? If they're small enough, you could try to plant it on someone to track them. Even if they're larger, you could still get them into a cart or something that you wanted to follow.

Nice, I hadn't even thought of that. They're about a size that fits into the palm of an average human's hand, and vaguely flat, so that could work well.

Con someone into following a map the wrong way, leading them into an ambush.

Well, we're not really an evil group, but it could still be useful if we ever manage to trick a villain or two.

You can leave one somewhere that you need to make sure you can find your way back to. For example, if you're out chasing pirates, you could leave one at port in case you get lost at sea.
