Conspiracies

I was watching Conspiracies on TechTV and I got this idea... Do any of you use conspiracies or conspiaracy groups in your games as DMs? In my core D&D game, the churches of some of the gods in the local pantheon are aware that the gods are NOT truly gods, but ultra-powerful non-devine beings. The source of divine magic is a completely different thing, a source of magic deep within the planet itself. Another conspiracy floating around is that the first generation of elves on my world are immortal (a la Tolkien) and many are still alive. Most people are unaware of this too. Part of the beginning of my next campaign will involve the exposure of these facts, causing a world war

Do I use conspiracy groups? Dude, I GM Paranoia. You haven't seen conspiracy until your game needs to give you six copies of your character to give you a chance of surviving the tangled web.

Similarly with Shadowrun - whole friggin' game is about conspiracies of one sort or another :D

In my games, there's an organization of intellectuals called the Freethinkers. The Freethinkers are actually a front for a group known as the Blue Hand who expand everywhere. The Blue Hand intertwines with another group known as the Kurai, who run espionage missions and are made up of information brokers, warlocks, witchdoctors, and assassins. And they intertwine with another organization...it all encircles, so when one thing happens to one conspiracy group, it affects them all.

Gods yes! Just about every game, regardless of system or setting, has four or five conspiracies.

Ranging from the Templar conspiracy to the Jesuits, from Freemasons to secret monarchists in post revolution France, from government conspiracies and cover ups to Tsarist plots to retake Russia, from fascist plots to take over the U.S. in the 1930s to marranos simply attempting to keep their faith. Conspiracies can add a lot of spice to a game.

Some can become the central theme to a campaign.

The Auld Grump

In my game there's a background conspiracy. So background that I doubt that any of them have any idea that there is a conspiracy.
The best kind.

Demiurge out.

I have my own race of conspiracy. They are called the Slacerians. :) Everyone THINKS they left of their own free will or died out... Not really. ;)

Because they've really disguised themselves as halflings, and nobody ever pays attention to the halflings...

Right?
Demiurge out.
