Conspiracy X (or GURPS Conspiracy X) - anyone have it?

Desdichado

Legend
I'm interesting in sprinkling my Dark•Matter with Delta Green, and possibly Conspiracy X - thing is, I don't know much about Conspiracy X except that it's pretty much the same premise.

I've read some reviews of the main game that pan the system pretty bad, so I'd prefer a book that has a lot of setting that I could adapt into any system (maybe d20 Modern). I'm kinda thinking that the GURPS Conspiracy X might do the trick. Of course, I can't seem to find GURPS Conspiracy X in their catalogue, but I remember seeing it on a shelf before; it must be out of print.

Is it worth it to track that down? Anyone know anything about the premise that you can share? I don't mind spoilers for the setting; I'd like to see how it differs from the obviously similarly themed Dark•Matter, for instance.

Eden is coming out with ConX version 2.0 around GenCon, I believe. It takes the same great setting and phenomonal cell construction rules and uses the Unisystem which is worlds better than the basic system in ConX.

That sounds interesting. I've heard great things about Unisystem in the past. Isn't Unisystem an Eden Studios house system as well?

What's the hook of the campaign setting? How does it differ from Dark•Matter or X-files, though?

I've had the Steve Jackson Games "Suppressed Transmission" books recommended to me for a similar purpose. You might want to try those?

Mongoose's OGL Horror also has a great (D20 Compatible) system for assigning statistics/skills/etc. to conspiracies and organizations. It's only about 15 useful pages in a 40 dollar book, but it's REALLY useful.

ConX was ok (I'm a Delta Green head though so, hard sell on anything else.) The cell structure rules were indeed good. You might also check out GURPS Black Ops for some additional fun material. I'll be interested to see ConX 2.0 if it uses Unisystem. I became a Unisystem fan from picking up All Flesh Must Be Eaten....they had me at hello (or was that, braaaaaaiiiinnnsss....) ;)

I've got a lot of the original ConX stuff. Good system, good psychic rules, but *way* too easy to make a bipolar character who was fantastic at killing people and inept at everything else. If your players are trustworthy, it was pretty good.

Oh, and the hand to hand system was well wierd, but pretty good...

Warehouse 23 has GURPS Conspiracy X in stock -- http://www.warehouse23.com/item.html?id=EDN0024.

The basic setup of ConX is that the PC's work for various government agencies, but are also belong to a "good-guy" conspiracy ("Aegis"), trying to keep the world safe from various icky aliens. There's also a "bad-guy" conspiracy ("the Black Book") and elements of psi and the supernatural. ConX uses real-world UFO and conspiracy lore where Delta Green uses the Cthluhu Mythos; you might call that its hook.
