And yes, he smokes. But they're filtered.

I was trying to explain just how bad Reeves would be in this role to the hubby who never read hellblazer, and I basicly told him that the role could be imagined with Spike in it (bitter, jaded, english, blond, smokes, etc) and that Keanu in the role was an insult. Actually aside from maybe brad pitt, I'm not sure who wouldn't make a better Constantine...

If anybody knows anything about HellBlazer (my favorite comic), and goes to see this movie, they should be shot.

If Bill Gates said he would give me ten million dollar to see this movie I would say NO!

If NASA said I could take reguler trips into space on the shuttle(non exploding ones), I would say NO!

I cannot remember the actors names off the top of my head, so please bear with me.
1, The actor who plays Whesly on angel. He has come a long way in skill and talent since he first showed up in Buffy. Give him a blonde dye job and I think he could pull off the character.
2, The actor who played Mithos on the Highlander series. Currently he is in USA networks, Touch Of Evil. He has experence playing a character who has a different outlook on life and can pull off the world weary attitude that John usually has.

i think we ALL agree that we would prefer our Constantine british and convincingly bitter. two things that Keanu ISN'T

that said, a movie with Constantine, based on one of the best runs of the comic HAS to be seen, even if its just to be mocked.

They're really sticking it to the English in this one, aren't they? Not only do they cast Keanu and make the character American, they get Englishwoman Rachel Weisz as the female lead and make her do an American accent!

In addition to all actors mentioned, I wouldn't have minded Paul Bettany. Real good actor.

(Looks at IMDB) Oh crap, that turd Gavin Rossdale from Bush is in this too? Screw this crap. Now I'm definitely going. And I'm bringing some melty Milk Duds, several cell phones, no deoderant, and five bean burritos worth of gas with me.

Just a note: James Marsters (Spike on Buffy) ain't British...he was born and raised in California. But yeah, I see him in the role. Alexis Denisof (Wesley) ain't British either, but he did live in the UK for 13 years after being born in Maryland and raised in Seattle. He might be better, I really like the darker Wesley that's on Angel.

Tim Roth would be good too. I actually liked The Musketeer (he played Febre, the evil eyepatch guy), in part because of him. And he's actually British...but honestly I wouldn't care so long as my American ears are fooled by the accent--it doesn't seem like Keanu is even trying.

As a good thing, Djimon Hounsou is playing Papa Midnite...
