From what I have heard, it's a scenario where a lone missile is detected, but it is unclear who fired it/where it came from, and how the US responds to it. Sagan's comments underscore the shortsightedness of potentially destroying the only home we have.

just on that trailer I'd be expecting it to be about a suspected alien invasion and if it's supposed to be a teaser I'd end up very disappointed when the aliens turn out to be just a stray missile

yes in part, especially his "living on a mote of dust" and "no help from elsewhere" gives the vibe, plus the military and civilian scramble and a long line of alien invasion movies...

I'll be sure to let Hollywood know that Sagan is only allowed to be used in space related movie, I didn't get anything space related from watching the teaser.

The sarcasm is unnecessary.

In my mind, and in many others, that specific speech is strongly linked to the photograph taken by Voyager I. Additionally, Sagan was one of the most famous astronomers in modern history. Finally, he wrote the sci-fi alien novel Contact (which was made into a movie). There is nothing strange about associating him with such subjects.
