From what I have heard, it's a scenario where a lone missile is detected, but it is unclear who fired it/where it came from, and how the US responds to it. Sagan's comments underscore the shortsightedness of potentially destroying the only home we have.

I agree it does a poor job setting out the premise. But it's a teaser, meant to intrigue you, and it certainly gives a tone of tension and escalation, with a dash of existential doom.

"Teasers" are supposed to be quick hits that leaving you with questions and intrigue. Trailers are longer and designed to provide a premise for the entire film.

I got it from the tease that involved a missile

shots of a missile, the big board showing a missile track, defcon indicator, government evac but then again maybe it's because i'm into that type of thing
