Contingency Warrior - Best Spells?

Hello, everyone!

I'm planning on playing a wizard in the next campaign who usually relies on illusion magic, but when things turn ugly will polymorph/shapechange and try to beat on something. However, I've never played a wizard before. I'm planning on having Chain Contingency (eventually), Quicken Spell, and, using Arcane Disciple, access to the spells of the Competition domain (which include Greater Visage of the Deity, Divine Power and Righeous Might, among others).

For Wizards who have done this before, what do you think are the best spells to quicken/contingency to get a mage up for physical combat in a short amount of time (at most 2 rounds or so)?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

If you don't have the Compelet arcane theyhave a new feat for making contingent spells. It seemed to be pretty cool. It would be like having a potion that triggered when you needed it to. Might be an ideal.

I would think things like fire shield, stoneskin and other buffs would be best. Anything to keep people from hitting you. MIrror image is great for this. Even at higher levels when the bad guys have access to true sight not everyone on the opposing side will have it making it still useful. Displacement, blink and Greater blink(compelte arcane) are also good buffs. And they all fit into the illusions sort of idea.

The Arcane Strike feat (from CW) might be interesting for you, as well.

With access to Divine Power and Righteous Might, I'd say those plus Polymorph (later Shapechange, of course) are pretty good.

With Quicken Spell you can get the low level spells (i.e. Shield, Mirror Image, True Strike) up while you already engage in combat.

Improved Blink (or Greater Blink now :D) is also a very good spell, that combines good defense (miss chance, effective grapple immunity) and also offense (strike as invisible, but no miss chance for yourself as with the regular Blink) and mobility (move through walls, or opponents, if they cannot strike etheral you don't have to worry about movement AoO and grapples anymore ;)). That spell saved the pretty hide of my sorceress in CotSQ just recently.

Bye
Thanee
