I'm sick of the word "munchkin"!
Why does everyone always bash on powergaming? I mean, is there anything "wrong" with a playing the game at a high power level. I personally enjoy powergaming, I would rather play powerful characters capable of amazing feats, rather than perpetually weak characters. For this reason I have been called a "munchkin". Because I enjoy dungeon crawl rather than getting immersed in my character, I have been called a munchkin! It seems like this style of play has become associated with immature players, and "munchkins"!
Every since White Wolf came out with World of Darkness (or possibly before then) all I have been hearing about is role-playing, character immersion, and story-telling. Don't get me wrong, I like a good story as much as the next person, but I dislike it at the expense of elements that I consider fun (combat, dungeon crawls, having your character gain power). If you like deep immersion storytelling, and hate combat with a passion, that's fine but just respect the way I play and I'll respect yours. I just hate evangelical role-players. These players see it as their duty to "enlighten" powergamers so that they can "see the light" and start role-playing more. Every once in a while I see a thread on these boards asking members how to get players to role-play more, as if there was an inherent problem for not role-playing enough. All I'm saying is be careful throwing the "m-word" around, and try to respect people who play a different style of game.
