I dunno. And I don't see much problem with it....some races learn quicker than others, at least during their 'childhood'.
This is my explanation for Elven slow learning most of the time, in Aurelia, aside from their personality and culture having a part in it.
'Elves retain a childlike state of mind, and a slow rate of learning, throughout their first century of life. It takes several decades for an Elf to physically mature to the equivalent of a Human teenager.
By adulthood they finally begin to mature, and come into their prime both physically and mentally. But even an adult Elf tends to experience lulls of several months in length, during which he or she is fairly wistful, stubborn, capricious, or whimsical, and fails to develop any further in such times. Typically, an Elf who is highly active is less likely to fall into such a lull, but may fall into one rather quickly as soon as their pace of life slows down. These lulls are referred to as the fey whispers, and are considered a normal, healthy phase of Elven life, considering their great lifespan and the mental need to sort out and cope with old issues.
Elves who reach middle age tend to mellow out just a bit, and no longer suffer the occasional fey whispers, but instead possess a slower rate of learning and mental development than younger folk.'
