D&D General Converting Bg3 to Tabletop

So this thread may have come up already. I haven’t noticed if it did and I didn’t spot it on Google.

There is something unique about Bg3 that is very different to other CRPGs. They normally account for the fact that a single player can point and click through combat very quickly so there are usually multiple repeating fights. Something that would be very tedious in TTRPG takes moments on screen. Owlcats Kingmaker, BG1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights etc all convert badly to table for this reason.

BG3 doesn’t play that way. The locations can largely be grouped into 5 room dungeons with 2-5 fights in each. All different, all discreet. Take the Beachside Ruin. Merc’s outside, Mercs inside, Skeletons. Very manageable for a 3-4 hours game session. Same for the Emerald Enclave, same for the Abandoned Forge.

Now include the fact that the maps for BG3 can be screen grabbed and even have 5’ square grid markings when you zoom in, I think it would be trivially easy to convert this across the 5e.

The only ‘challenge’ would be stripping out the magic items - they clearly didn’t get the 5e memo on item quantity - but aside from that it’s set up pretty darn well. What do people think? Easy or difficult to convert? Would you folks do it?

If you would do it, then would you play it straight or would you take bits out? If so what would hit the cutting room floor?

For me, less shadows and shadowcursed vine blights. Other than that it’s hard to think what I would remove.

Im running a BG3.5 inspired campaign.

It has more basic items than typical. Not BG3 levels though.

Its not to far off the 5.5 DMG guidelines.

Most of the rest is adding equipment eg smokepowder grenades and situational modifiers.
How far have you got? Have you ran the encounters and story as the game? Are you enjoying it?

I used elements from the game. Not recreating it.

Level 13 battle of BG. Final session Sunday.

Metaplot was basically dead 3 and heretics called Ebon Triad. They wanted to merge the 3 into one god.

Ebon triad was a front for a demon lord.

So a few encounters were similar to the game. Avatar of Myrkul was a refluffed death knight. Bane was a DM special, slayer refluffed Marilith/DM special.

Used Mizora, some vendors and items from the game.

This sounds fun.

I would adapt many of the items to the TTRPG, bit cut them down by a wide margin. Something like 1/3 of the way from the PHB toward the video game.

I might want to run this!
Yeah. I had a look and there are 11 mini dungeons in Act 1, and 3 major dungeons (Goblin Fort, Grimforge, and Abbey)

Act 2 has the wilderness area. 6 mini dungeons and 3 major dungeons (gauntlet of shar and Moonrise towers)

Act 3 is about the same as both combined.

I reckon there are at least 15 levels worth of goodness there. Possibly all 20.

All the battle maps needed are available on the Wiki with 5ft square grid already included.

It feels almost Pret a Manger. You’d just need to come up with descriptions and stat blocks.

Dungeons like this existed in older D&D. 3D elevated terrain.

They're a lot bigger than the typical ttrpg.

Side effect of BG is Gith, Jergal, dead 3 and Selune/Shar are more prominent.
