Converting Creatures from Other Campaign Settings

I agree, they shouldn't speak.

+4 turn resistance in tomb-tainted?

I'm inclined to go with greater and elder, also, just so there's more spread for the spell levels.

Not sure they need that much. They're got pretty feeble mental stats but quite a few HD, so +2 turn resistance or none at all feels better to me.

Updated.

I question the inability to at least understand a language. The elders are as smart as an average human, and the "dumbest" among them are Int 4, which usually allows for at least rudimentary language.

Shall we work out the spell levels of healing spells to "summon" them?

Looking at the summon monster/nature's ally lists:

3rd/2nd: Small
5th/4th: Medium
6th/5th: Large
7th/6th: Huge
8th/7th: Greater
9th/9th: Elder

So maybe...

0-1st: None
2nd-3rd: Small
4th: Medium
5th: Large
6th: Huge
7th: Greater
8th-9th: Elder
Epic: Monolith

Perhaps they understand the languages that the caster who created them understands? That would be amusing.

The spell levels seem good to me.

I think of it more that their thoughts cannot be parsed by entities who are not native to the Negative Material Plane.

Similar to the Xeg-Yi, which "have high intelligence, but their minds are alien and their thoughts are incomprehensible to humans."

I'm thinking we might be better off setting it to the higher level of the lists, e.g.:

3rd: Small
5th: Medium
6th: Large
7th: Huge
8th: Greater
9th: Elder

Since there's precedent, I'm satisfied. B-)

I want 4th-level in there, so there's not gap. We can start with 4th, or simply have a range at one of the levels. I'm not much bothered either way, as long as we don't leave off 4th.

I don't mind a gap, although on reflection I'd prefer it between the Large/Huge versions, since that's the one with the biggest jump in HD and stats, e.g.:

3rd: Small
4th: Medium
5th: Large
7th: Huge
8th: Greater
9th: Elder

Alternatively, we can just match the levels to a the elementals in a summon nature's ally.

2nd: Small
4th: Medium
5th: Large
6th: Huge
7th: Greater
9th: Elder

That's got two gaps, just to please ya.

I'm still strongly anti-gap. :hmm:

Let's await freyar's take.

Well I think following the summon nature's ally progression makes more sence, I'm willing to humour your continuum fetish if it'll make you happy. :p

The question is do we want to close the gap down or up?

e.g.

Level Down
2nd: Small
3rd: Medium
4th: Large
5th: Huge
6th: Greater
7th: Elder
8th: Monolith?

Level Up
3rd: Small
4th: Medium
5th: Large
6th: Huge
7th: Greater
8th: Elder
8th: Monolith?

Both of those are lower level than most summon nature's ally equivalents.

When a healing spell forms a Living Ash out of the ashen wastes, is the creature only temporary (emerging for a few rounds and then disintegrating back into the wastes) or is it a permanent creature?

If it's temporary like a summoning spell I'd be happier with a lower level version.

Also, I'm wondering whether the entire Ashen Wastes is one really big Living Ash, and the healing spells only "wake up" comparatively tiny portions of it. Maybe they're antibodies released to destroy destructive Positive Energy infections?
