D&D 3.x Converting monsters from Mayfair Games Role Aids product line

Easier to read, yes! I think the only way to cut it now would be to drop the wind bit if people really want.

As for the Spot check, we could just add "A DC X Spot check is required to distinguish the dust spider from a pile of dust" to the first paragraph. That might even make sense as a static DC, like 20 or so.

I like the "wind bit", so would rather keep it in.

I was thinking about a static DC of 20 or so too. Maybe even less, since it's a very low-level monster.

DC 20 camouflage in dust form works for me.

DC20 it is then!

The original description has "Their webs and the areas surrounding their webs are normally blanketed in a fine, sparkling dust. The dust, emitted from the spider, becomes extremely sticky upon contact with air and can act as an adhesive when substantial pressure is applied.", so we need to detail that.

We can just use the standard Monstrous Spider's "sheets of sticky webbing" ability for that.

Do we want to give them the standard Web-Spinner's net throwing ability? I think I'll cut it out, since there's no mention of it, but I'd leave them the standard spider's ability to lower themselves on silken lines.

What else is there.

Skills? Take a web-spinning Tiny Monstrous Spider's racial bonuses and divide the Lesser Dust Spider's 4 skill points between Move Silently and Spot? That would work out:

Skills: Climb +10, Hide +16* (+20 in web), Jump -4, Move Silently +4 (+12 in web), Spot +6

That just leaves its feat. It should get Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat, but I don't have a strong feeling for its regular feat at the moment.

I'm thinking Ability Focus (poison), as otherwise the DC is pretty darn weak.

Agreed, that would put it up to DC12 which is still pretty piddly but reasonable for such a weak monster.

We decided on Dexterity damage for the poison but I don't think we settled on how much - 1d3/1d3 Dex?

Apart from that we're almost there. Assuming everyone agrees with the work so far, we've only got Organization, Challenge Rating and Advancement left.

I think 1d3 Dex/1d3 Dex is ok. And I'd probably put them at CR 1/2 or so with the poison.

Org: solitary or clutter (2-4).

For advancement, step them up to the greater's size and HD (whatever those were)?
