Converting PDF files to Word files

This question is actually work related, not game related. A co-worker wishes to convert PDF files into Word files. I'm assuming a third-party program such as PDF Converter is required. If so, can anyone recommened a good (and relatively inexpensive) program that can do the job well? (I'm not actually familiar with that PDF Converter program mentioned above - that was just the first thing that I found while Googling for options)

Acrobat Professional (at least 6.0 Professional does) has a "Save As" option to word format. I've never used it myself, so I can't say how well it does it.

Actually, the "Save As" option is, IIRC, for RTF only and not for the actually DOC file format - you end up losing the formatting. In order to actually convert to WORD and keep the formatting, you'll end up having to purchase (an expensive) 3rd-party plug-in. Of course, figuring out which 3rd-party plug-in actually does this properly and reliably is like navigating a minefield because there are many different 3rd-party plugin companies - some of which are questionable.

Your best bet is to "Save as" HTML and then import that into Word.

Acrobat can't export PDF to Word. The closest it can come is little better than copy-and-paste of the text.

HOWEVER, a good OCR software should be able to take PDF as an original, and extract it to a word document. Scansoft's Omnipage does just that--we use it at work, and it does the conversion EXTREMELY well. Scansoft also makes the PDF converter you referenced, but if you have a scanner, you'd be better off (IMO) with getting a full version of Omnipage.

Actually you can save in RTF format Word will work with that just like a .doc file.
