Converting Planescape monsters

For the attack lines, the original has a single unnamed attack that deals 6d6 points of damage.

If we go with the giant bite, then I'd say add imp grab and swallow whole (up to 1 size category smaller, even). Just seems to fit.

Giant bite, imp grab and swallow whole seems pretty good to me! Maybe they even curse those they swallow and spit them back out, just to add to the misery.

6d6 bite - ouch! I guess it's not surprising, as H4 is a notoriously high level adventure.

A single bite attack with all the trimmings works for me. How about it can distend its jaws to make a giant bite even when disguised as another creature, plus a multidimensional gizzard so it can swallow creatures larger than its external size would support. It could be "the old lady who swallowed a horse".

Drop summon tanar'ri since they are so loathed by their own kind? Or just give 'em a horrible chance of success?

I'd drop the Summon Tanar'ri altogether.

Should the whine be a supernatural, sonic, mind-affecting abilty with a multitude of effects, or should we just use SLAs? I think I favor the former.

I'd support a multi-mode sonic mind-affecting attack, like a cloaker's moan but Supernatural.

Modifying the cloaker abilities...

Whine (Su): A dire whiner can emit dangerous audible compulsions as a standard action. The dire whiner can cause one of three effects. Dire whiners are immune to these sonic, mind-affecting attacks. Unless otherwise specified, a creature that successfully saves against one of these effects cannot be affected by the same whine effect from the same dire whiner for 24 hours. All save DCs for whine effects are Charisma-based.

Feeblemind: A single creature within 30 feet of the cloaker must succeed on a DC X Will save or be affected as though by a feeblemind spell.

Hopelessness: Anyone within a 60-foot spread automatically takes a –2 penalty on attack and damage rolls. Those forced to hear the whine for more than 6 consecutive rounds must succeed on a DC X Will save or enter a trance, unable to attack or defend themselves until the whining stops.

Suggestion: A single creature within 30 feet of the cloaker must succeed on a DC X Will save or be affected as though by a feeblemind spell.

I'd be worried the range for its feeblemind and suggestion abilities is a bit short. It might have trouble surviving an encounter with PCs long enough to get close enough to use it. Could give it greater teleport I suppose, which would go some way toward solving that problem.

Would greater teleport or a longer range be preferable? I guess I don't have much of a preference myself.
