How's this?

Starvation (Ex): Unlike other Outsiders, blazozoids must eat. Each month that a blazozoid goes without feeding, it loses one size category to a minimum size of Large (modify physical abilities, natural armor, and damage as per the usual size advancement rules in reverse). Each time that a starving blazozoid eats, it regains one size category; if a Large starving blazozoid does not feed within one month, it dies.

Time period negotiable.

That'll work I suppose, although I would rather there be some random element involved. Maybe use Fort checks at an increasing DC, or a single Fort check?

Hmm, something like:

Starvation (Ex): Unlike other Outsiders, blazozoids must eat. If a blazozoid goes without feeding for longer than 10 days it must begin to make daily Fort saves (DC equal to the number of days spent without food). For every failed Fort save it loses one size category to a minimum size of Large (modify physical abilities, natural armor, and damage as per the usual size advancement rules in reverse). Each time that a starving blazozoid eats, it regains one size category; if a Large starving blazozoid does not feed within one month, it dies.

...that seems too fast to me. I'll have to think about it further. How's this?

Starvation (Ex): Unlike other Outsiders, blazozoids must eat. If a blazozoid goes without feeding for 10 days it must make a Fortitude check (DC 10) or lose one size category (modify physical abilities, natural armor, and damage as per the usual size advancement rules in reverse). For every additional 10 days of starvation the blazozoid must make another Fort save (DC 10 plus 5 per additional save) or lose a further size category, to a minimum size of Large. Each time that a starving blazozoid eats, it regains one size category. Once starvation reduces a blazozoid to Large size it takes 1d6 Constitution damage from starvation for every 10 days it goes without food. Since it is starvation damage it can not be cure by restoration spells or similar means.

Oh, and shouldn't we say something about how much it needs to eat to count as a "meal"?

I can live with the Fort save, but don't think it's necessary. This will come up so infrequently, as these wouldn't make good PCs or henchman, that I don't think it needs a very complex ability.

Yeah, that would be important! ;)

Fort save or not is ok.

Ok, how much do they need to eat? What we have is this:

They eat, or refuel, by turning matter into energy. .... When encountered in the depths of wildspace (i.e., close to a crystal sphere), a blazozoid is sure to want something from a passing spelljammer ship – either to eat the ship and crew, or to convince the pilots to take it to the next crystal sphere. .... However, if some provision for feeding the blazozoid during the long journey is not made, it may turn on the crew after reaching the next crystal sphere....

Any Large or bigger object, including combinations of smaller objects, will satiate it for 10 days?

If it's matter to energy, I think we should give a mass (say, 10 pounds per Hit Dice, or some proportion of its own weight?) that it needs to consume per day.
