Spelljammer Converting Spelljammer creatures

If it's matter to energy, I think we should give a mass (say, 10 pounds per Hit Dice, or some proportion of its own weight?) that it needs to consume per day.

Mass is fine. I was just attempting to short hand that with the size of an object. Let's say 10 lb per HD. That works for me. But it can be any kind of material.

I'll let you guys debate this. Wake me when you're finished. ;)

Hey, Shade, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!! :p

Hey, Shade, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!! :p

Let's put some numbers to that. 10 lbs per day per HD is roughly half a ton a week for an typical Blazozoid. (10 * 15 HD * 7 days = 1050 lbs).

Is that too much? Maybe halve it to 5 lbs per HD per day, or the minimum weight of a Large creature per week.

We could also mention it can eat more than it daily need to store up food for later, maybe up to days = Con score?

5 lb per HD per day is fine, as well as saving up food. If you want the Fort save, can you work this in?

I'd put a Fort save in an earlier rough draft, but Shade didn't much fancy it.

I'm not sure we need to stick to a Fort save, we could base it on Constitution. How's this?

Starvation (Ex): Unlike other Outsiders, Blazozoids must eat. They can consume any sort of matter by burning it to ash. For every hit dice a blazozoid possesses it must consume between 1 and 5 pounds of matter every day to sustain itself. The amount varies according to exertion. If it does nothing but rest and light activity, a blazozoid needs burn only 1 pound per HD per day per hit dice, but vigorous activities such as spelljamming or combat require 4 pounds per day per HD. A blazozoid can eat as much food as it can carry, storing the excess as a reserve for lean times.

If a blazozoid has no food to burn, it consumes its own body and shrinks. Once it goes without food for a number of days equal to its Constitution score a blazozoid lose 1 size category, to a minimum size of Large. Modify physical abilities, natural armor, and damage as per the usual size advancement rules in reverse. Once starvation reduces a blazozoid to Large size it takes 1d6 Constitution damage from starvation for every 10 additional days it goes without food. Since this is starvation damage it can not be cure by restoration spells or similar means. These time periods assume normal activity, a very hard working blazozoid shrinks up to twice as quickly, while one that conserves its energies by resting shrinks at half the above speeds.

A blazozoid can recover a lost size category by eating 50 pounds of matter per Hit Dice it possesses.

Updated.

I think we can leave off the Spelljamming bits, since they aren't OGL and we never do 'em for the other Spelljammer critters.

Have we discussed skills and feats:

Skills: 9 at 18 ranks

Feats: Weapon Finesse, 5 more

That's OK by me, but in that case we should cut mention of it from the Starvation SQ:

change to this?

Since they're sent out to explore the universe Appraise, Search and Spot seem appropriate. Listen seems less useful in space...

For the feats, maybe look to the Huge Fire Elemental for inspiration?

Huge Fire Elemental: Alertness, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Improved Initiative (B), Iron Will, Mobility, Spring Attack, Weapon Finesse (B)

Since it's a "grab and burn" fighter, Spring Attack is of less use. Maybe Ability Focus (firetouch) or Weapon Focus (firetouch)?

Blazozoid Feats: Alertness, Combat Reflexes, Improved Initiative, Iron Will, Weapon Finesse plus one?

Several Knowledges also make sense, but I'm not sure which are most appropriate. I confess I don't have great ideas on all the skills.

Feats are fine. Give it Weapon Focus for the last, I think.

I was slightly leaning towards Ability Focus, since it uses touch attacks, but I don't much mind either way.

We could leave it to Shade.
