Converting the Master (X5) to 3rd edition

My party is nearing the Temple of death, and I've got a lot of conversion work and tweaking to do, oh, man

Anyone ever convert the Master?

OK, he's a 14th level cleric in the Module, so that's simple enough, though the avatar issue is something to consider.

Any thoughts?

Why not make him some sort of variant mummy? He is able to project a non-undead version of himself, perhaps it is a memory made solid. Perhaps as a mummy he has no spellcasting abilities but he projects a tangible memory of himself from a time when he did have such powers?

I'm not sure what you would call such a creature (mnemummy doesn't exactly roll off the tongue) but it would cover it nicely plus give the PCs something to fight when they attempt to destroy his body.

I would possibly rule that he cannot manifest a memory-self/avatar within line of sight of himself else he "disbelieves" it out of existence.
