Yes, you're right about the digest gems, I forgot with all the monsters we have going!

Gem Dependent (Ex?): If a crystal drake does not eat at least 5 gp worth of gems (of any type) in any given week, its hide becomes dull and lusterless. The drake loses its Unearthly Grace and Spell Reflection abilities until it eats at least 5 gp worth of gems.

At very young, how about 5 gp and gain psionic focus?

At juvenile, 20 gp and manifest vigor on itself?

At ancient, 200 gp and maybe either Mind Shield or Body Purification on itself?

At great wyrm, 500 gp and maybe Maximize Power on the next power?

Well, I meant we should choose either Mind Shield or Body Purification, but it actually works as written if you like the option.

Appraise (for the gems), Autohypnosis, Psicraft?

Are we going to do anything with this?
They each have two cheek pouches, much like hamsters, in which they can store up to four gems. Their senses of smell and taste are very keen, and they can actually sense the presence of precious stones within 10’.
An ability to carry gems in cheek pouches and eat one as a swift action?
Some sort of mineral sense or just usual dragon keen senses?

Those skills appeal, as does the cheek pouch idea.

We could tweak this to work for gems...

Metalsense (Ex): All ferrous dragons can sense the location and amount of any non-precious metal (precious metals include adamantine, copper, gold, mithral, platinum, and silver) within a distance of 30 feet x the dragon’s age category. This makes it nearly impossible to sneak up on a ferrous dragon when wearing armor or wielding weapons made from iron or other nonprecious metals. Like blindsense, opponents the dragon can’t actually see still have total concealment against the dragon.

We can also merge it with the gold dragon's detect gems ability:

Detect Gems (Sp): An old or older gold dragon can use this ability three times per day. This is a divination effect similar to a detect magic spell, except that it finds only gems. The dragon can scan a 60-degree arc each round: By concentrating for 1 round it knows if there are any gems within the arc; 2 rounds of concentration reveal the exact number of gems; and 3 rounds reveal their exact location, type, and value. This ability is the equivalent of a 2nd-level spell.

Ok, how about these?

Cheek Pouches (Ex): Crystal drakes, like chipmunks, have cheek pouches that allow them to carry food, gems in the drake's case, in their mouths. A crystal drake may carry up to 4? gems at a time in its mouth at a time. As long as it is carrying at least one gem in its cheek pouches, it may consume a gem as a swift action.

(I could see cutting to 2 gems at a time.)

Gemsense (Ex): Crystal drakes can sense the presence of gem stones within a distance of 10 ft at all times. By concentrating for 1 round, the drake can determine the precise location, type, and number of gem stones.
