Eh, the 3.0 splatbooks are way more overpowered than most of the 3.5 stuff.

Not overpowered, just... less balanced.

There are quite a few problems in your gaming group, not just that the DM won't wllow new books. I am restrictive myself on what can be used, but I have a wide range of homebrew stuff, so my players never go hungry

The best way is probably to become the DM yourself.
