Please stop sending me emails about the login problem!

If you've sent me an email asking why the board keeps asking you to log in, I'm sorry that I haven't replied. Problem is, you're one of a couple of hundred people who have sent me similar emails in the last couple of days, and I just can't answer them all!

Just a quick request - please check the Meta forum before sending emails about technical issues. You'll often find that any problem you're having has been discussed in depth there. :)

Anyway - so you know what the score is. There's a cookie problem. It affects some people and not others. Try the following remedies:

1) Delete your cookies.
2) Go to your user control panel and ensure that both cookie options are set to "Yes" (or is it "On"? Can't check while posting...)
3) Close all browsers and open them up again. Return to the boards and log in on the main forum page.

It has solved the problem for some. For other people, they are finding it partially solves the problem, but still asks them to login when they first come to the boards. Others get a login request every 6-7 posts or so.

It will get solved for the final server move (maybe before then) - we're currently on a temporary Frankenstein of a server. At worst, I'm afraid it's an inconvenience that we'll have to put up with for a few days, but it's better than having a user limit! It's affecting me too, so I know it can be annoying, so please bear with me for a little longer.

But please stop sending me all those emails - it's physically impossible for me to reply to them all! :)

Morrus....

I feel guilty. I have been using you for your boards.

Please forgive me.

P.S. Can't respond to 200 emails? Don't you care about us anymore???

Hey, Russ, not to change the subject, but there seems to be something wrong with the login for the boards. Fix that, will you? Chop chop!

look, Morrus, I understand the hassles of runing these boards but please warn your posers that these log in problems eat whole posts when they pop up.

COMPOSE YOUR POSTS IN NOTEPAD OR MS WORD

then copy and paste them into the reply page, this way your text is not eaten by the log in monster.

That's funny - in IE 6 I can simply hit the "back" button several times and get right back to my entire post, still typed in and untouched.

Be careful. If your posts get too big, IE6 doesn't hold onto them. Big Post=Word Processer. Don't risk it.

No way ! I use KWrite ! I don't want to run Wine to have MS Word running, that's awfully slow and totally useless.

Beside, my brother have destroyed the Windows installation with a worm. That will teach him to use Outlook for mails.

Myself, I'm a happy Linux user.
