I am playtester for the Black Company Campaign Setting.
Under the NDA I can only say, that the Designers capture the flair of the BC Books very well!
Everything is Grim, gritty and very Deadly (as it should be).
They poored lots of love and effort into the book.
I will definitly buy it when it is out in November (GR Shedule).

Can sombody tell me more about Game of Thrones D20?
I agree that the Black Company Campaign Setting does an excellent job of capturing the atmosphere of the books. I am buying this when it comes out in Nov.

Game of Thrones is great, and also captures the atmosphere of the books very well. What I like about the combat system is that everyone makes an attack role, and a defense roll. There are various feats and skills which can enhance both. On defense, you can choose between dodge/parry and block (with a shield or other item). This makes the combat much more realistic and more fun.

The problem with the setting is that George R.R. Martin has to sign off on everything before it can be released. And he can't take the time to check everything out and sign off on it until he finished the fourth novel in the series. So it might be GenCon '05 before the setting gets released.

Also, there is no magic system because the magic in the books has so far been very minimal, and not explained very well. The writers of the game haven't been able to sit down with Martin to ask him about the magic system -- he's too busy writing -- so the magic system will probably have to be a supplement.

But there is a lot of role-playing involved with the various houses, and alliances, and each character has reputation and status scores that reflect this.

Anyone play Cthulhu 500? The NASCAR game that man was not meant to play? It sounded pretty nifty.

OMG. I miss GENCon for the first time in four years because I'm working for NASCAR and this comes out. Coincidence.... or a dark conspiracy of forgotten gods from another dimension? Perhaps the stars will soon be right.

I looked all over for Tac-Tiles and couldn't find them. Rather than break down and buy the small Chessex mat, I decided to wait and give Tac-Tiles my money all internet-like.

You wont be dissapointed... those tact-tiles have been the most useful gaming purchase Ive made in a long time.

I enjoyed both the Game of Thrones d20 game and the Dark Company d20 game. Both have elements to them which I can't wait to steal for my regular D&D game.
Game of Thrones is out? I thought they weren't going to finish it until George R. Martin finishes book 4...

What's it like?

Regarding the Game of Thrones RPG:

I will buy it the day it comes out.

I am looking forward to it even more than I am to the Black Company setting.

But I don't want Mr. Martin to take any sort of substantial time off from finishing the next novel to read and approve it. I can wait a bit if it means getting A Feast for Crows a little sooner.

George R.R. Martin is a busy man.
As I can wait for the Game, I am dying for A Feast of Crows. If it doesn´t come out fast, i have to read the books all obver again, to get back into the story.
But quality take a lot of time. So I wait patiently...

Taking the title of the post literally...

There were cool products there I already knew about, but one was a complete, pleasant surprise.

That would be the full-color hardcover d20 monster book "Denizens of Avadnu" from the folks in the little booth from Inner Circle Games.

Apart from seeing the words "Violet Dawn" a few times on the news page (which I never followed up on) I knew nothing about these folks or their products.

The book was up for an Ennie, but didn't win. I think they might have got robbed! :-) They admitted they needed more exposure.

Anyway, the book's quality is amazing, from the full color art and layout care to highly faithful use of the 3.5 monster building system. Plus adventure hooks, flavor and description to match the crunch.

Without a doubt my surprise treasure from the con.

Well, it's nice to see that some designers out there agree with our judgement on that one.
