Costs and weights for equipment

Okey, 1/2+ a year to late.

I am a "Hârniac" which mean that I love the game. But -

Hârn is played mostly (I guess) by people that loves realism (even to a degree that I think is to much) and many Hârniacs have vast knowledge of the medieval and history in general. The pricelists and weapon tables are fairly accurate (weapon weight can differ from 75% - 125% with decreased or increased effect) But when it comes to the normal items, they can of cause differ greatly (smaller or larger backpacks etc.) I simply picked something in the middle.

How rude am I. By the way I'm Fenhorn (and responsible for www.quicenter.com) and play HârnMaster, some wargames, some tabletop games and DnD. I know that there is probably a more appropriate place to introduce myself - sorry about that (and yes - I'm an Oldie).

Just a little tip. Since the company(s) (there are two) that makes Hârn doesn't exactly have a steady flow of books to buy, many Hârniacs make great fanonwares (with impressive quality). Many of these fanonwares can be used in other games than just Hârn (Hârn is both a rule system and a world). If you want to check it out go to www.lythia.com.

Sorry that my post here looks like an ad..

I would be happy with average weights. Like the average weight for a 5 foot long greatsword for example. It looks like Hârn is going to be the best place to get weights for things. I think I might be using the Hârn forum quite a bit for the next little while. Thanks for the help everyone.

I know that this is very simplistic, but what about starting off from the PHB? It has dozens of weapons with weight, so you can assign weights to the new weapons by comparing each with the most similar ones in PHB.

Prices are more difficult. You could base them entirely on game balance, thus you could identify the most similar PHB weapon (that with most number of identical entries: damage, size, type ecc.). Maybe the new weapon is mechanically identical with one in the PHB, and as such will cost the same. If it has 1 different feature, at least you can easily tell if it should cost more or less. How much exactly is more difficult of course...

It's not going to go into excruciating detail on the weapons or armor end in my experience but if you want a good source for overall medieval pricing (though it tends toward high medieval and later more than earlier) you want Fordham's Medieval Price List

Now I just need to relocate the link :)
