COTSQ Aftermath [Spoilers!]

Okay,

So my PCs didn't stop Irae in time. So now, the Dalelands have been depopulated, and there's a magical disruption to the weave that spreads out 300 miles from Maerimydra. Irae may be dead (not determined), but the Undying Temple is still there.

How long would you let the weave disruption spread? At a 300 mile radius, it's affecting part of Cormyr and the Moonsea at this point. It makes magical healing unreliable and undead far more dangerous. At the current rate, in a year it'll affect a good chunk of the continent ...

How would you play out the aftermath on the world? Looking for input. My PCs were mostly TPKed, so they are starting over at 1st level, so I'm looking at world ramifications, rather than PC challenges.

Thanks!

I'm thinking Randall Morn is probably pretty sorry he hired your players. If that was your plot hook that is. ;) Are you starting a fresh campaign with this event occuring or are you mixing levels?

SPOILERS

Randal Morn is probably dead. In fact, he is dead in my COSQ, but for different reasons.

I think the magical disruption in the weave continues until a) the Undying Temple is destroyed, or b) all of Faerun is affected.

I think you need to make two decisions:
a) How has this success impacted Irae? Has she gained one or more levels as an epic character? Has she picked up the "Chosen of Kiaransalee" template? Has she evolved into an Avatar of Kiaransalee?

b) What are Elminister and the other powers of the realms going to do?

In all probability, assuming your campaign is near canon - Elminister and the Chosen in the Shadowdale area will deal with the problem. The PCs had their shot at 15 minutes of glory and came up short.

Elminister/Storm/Sylune/Dove is not about to allow Shadowdale fall under the influence. Think of the effect on property values and the neighbourhood. Undead on every corner....Harper meetings being disrupted by the constant wailing of banshees..... :D :p

Seriously, with the close proximity of Shadowdale to the Undying Temple - Chosen central and home of the eastern chapter of Harpers, I would imagine that this 'problem' would be dealt with on the QT.

If you're intrested in doing this you should also consider the other magical might near that region: The City of Shade. They might see something there they want, or might want to examine the phenomenon. If you look at their description in Lords of Darkness, they can offer the Chosen and their sugar-daddy Elminster run for their money (actually, they'd "0WNZ" el and the chosen).

The shades aren't even dependant on the weave - but use the shadow weave instead, so I would think that they'd be intrested in the area.

Yeah, I thought about that.

I've decided that Irae was leading the revenants on the surface, and was killed by the Harpers and Dalesmen. So she isn't an issue. As well, with her dead, the Great Revenance can't be cast again (she didn't tell anyone else).

However, the Undying temple is still there, and likely a lesser power (a Drow Necromancer?) has set up shop and is creating undead. With the Weave Disruption, undead are going to love this area. I think Randal is still alive IMC, and his dale was only marginally affected. Sembia got caught on the fringes, and the Weave disruption is doing nothing to help Cormyr.

Elminster/Dove/etc. aren't going to like the disruption, but it won't affect them overly. Anyone over 5th level isn't going to have a problem making a Spellcraft check. But, it will make healing less reliable ...

I think a region of unreliable magic is kind of cool, but I think the rampant spread of the disruption is waaaaaaay too disruptive. Perhaps Elminster and Co can contain the effect?

I appreciate the feedback! Thanks guys!

It sounds like your now dearly departed players created quite a pickle for the Cormyr area. I would have the new group can have some sort of role and help the big boys in some small way until they gain sufficient level (assuming they survive) to make a bigger difference.
