Could the Live Transformers Movie Herald...

... An age of live action adaptations for our favourite Giant Robot series?

Personally, I would love to see a live action Gundam Wing and Battle Tech, as well as Robotech and some others. Got to run.

Live Action Gundam has been done...it was painfully horrible. Not only was the story bad, but the CG was crap and it just looked bad. Honestly, I'm cautious enough about this Transformers, so I really hope they stick away from my Gundam(or Macross, for that matter)...especially UC Gundam. Butcher Wing all you want, it was bad enough already.

And yet there is that cloud of RobotJox still hanging over us.

We'll have to see, although Japanese seems to do well with Kaiju/Mech Tokusatsu series.

...?

There *was* a live action Gundam movie? (And I should clarify, when I said Gundam Wing, I really meant just a Gundam movie, with its own original characters and plot).

And what do you mean by the cloud of RobotJox? I take that you mean it in a bad way. I've seen it, and I thought it was OK, but I do not know myself to be too critical a critic of movies, TV, books. For some reason, I am very haphazard in that department.

Have you seen the live-action Gunhead movie that was based on an anime and manga graphic novel? I am weary of CGI mechs after the first Power Rangers movie. Talk about bad mech designs done in CGI.

Dreamworks???!! Stephen Spielberg is producing it? WTF? I mean, yeah, wow.... wow.

Wow.

I dont know what to say.

Optimus better be cool, and Peter Cullen better do his voice, or Ill be ticked.

Maybe WotC could do a Transformers D20 for a tie in...

Yeah...

I'd heard they were making a Live Action version of Evangelion.

It has the (slight) possibility of being very cool, Eva itself being a remarkably cool show. Of course, since its a mecha show within the framework of a surrealist psychodrama (where every major character is a textbook case of several serious mental illnesses) with kaballistic apocalyptic imagery, that'll be interesting to mainstream American audiences.

The art was realistic enough that I could easily see a live action version, be interesting to see how they deal with Rei's (and Kaoru if he's in the movie)'s hair though. If the budget existed, seeing the series remade well as live action the entire way. For a single movie I'm afraid how much they'd have to trim/abridge/cut the storyline to fit it into the 2 or 3 hours (maximum) of a mainstream release. Evangelion: Death & Rebirth already had to trim things almost unrecognizably to fit it into a single movie.
