Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

All,
Let me kill this thread.

A lot of worry in the air lately, but two problems are foremost in my mind.

One, could Hasbro actually yank the OGL, or is it too late to withdraw it?

We wouldn't if we could and we can't.

If Hasbro can't yank the OGL, is it possible they could revise it to the point that all present d20 products are in violation of it?
We wouldn't if we could and we can't.

AV to the rescue!

Thanks Mr. Valterra, this is not a fun day to be a WotC I'm sure but its nice you take the time out to do some 'damage control' here.

Also I'm getting bummed out reading all this doom n' gloom about the future od D&D under WotC. I just want everyone to be happy and have fluffy kittens (or floppy eared puppies) to play with :D

::grants Anthony the title of Slayer of Threads:: :D

Thanks for the input, Anthony. Hopefully the work you've put into communicating with all of us will help ease some peoples' fears. I just hope this all blows over before you yank out all of your hair. ;)

Sorry, but the d20 system guide explains the relationship.

Nothing in the OGL allows you to use the SRD.

Sigh.

THE FACT THE MATERIAL IN THE SRD IS DESIGNATED AS OPEN GAMING CONTENT ALLOWS YOU TO USE IT.

It's open. Period. Full stop. End sentence. It cannot be closed. Never. Period. Full stop. End sentence. At worst, the parts not 'officially' released can be cancelled. but each and every 'officially released' word in the SRD is, open, now and forever, hallelujah and amen, preach it brothers and sisters, yeah!

You do not understand the licence. Please read it again. The STL applies *only* to the D20 trademarks. It has nothing to do with any right to use the SRD. The right to use the SRD is entirely contained in the fact the SRD is released under the OGL.

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to say while I am sorry to hear about the layoffs at WOTC you guys have done a lot to revitalize gaming and I appreciate it. Even if no one wants to play anything but DND :)

All of the current stuff coming out is d20. The SRD is D20.
The SRD is NOT d20.
It's OGL.

Look at the first part of it; it's a copy of the OGL license.

This is why WW/SSS is able to do the EverQuest game without using d20.

Worst case scenerio:

d20 is pulled, the SRD never gets finalized.

We are left with only the current SRD and the OGL.

Ever Quest would then become the only legal and complete ruleset for our 'system' which would no longer be legally able to refer to itself as D&D or d20.

Of course anything in EQ or any other future OGL book that used parts of the SRD that had not been finalized would have to go.

Hopefully the SRD will eventually get fully finalized. As well we can hope this worst case scenerio never even comes close to reality.

I meant with the state of their OGL/d20 usage in the corebooks and supplements.

I had gotten the announcement via the mailing lists already. I'm just somewhat in the dark as to what will be OGL and what will be d20 in EQRPG.
