Could you expand a failure range?

So I posted before about a feat idea, but I want to post a different one. What range should you fail at? Right now under most rules, you fail at 5 or more, I think you should be able to expand the failure range by either a static number or by an ability mod.

I've written about it here. http://http://throatpunchgames.com/2013/01/23/daily-punch-1-23-13/ Check it out and post your ideas here or there. I'd love to have a conversation about this!

First off, you'll prolly get more responses if you copy & paste the stuff here.

Second, it's an interesting idea you have; however, there aren't a lot of examples that I can think of where such a mechanic would come into play.

Specifically, however, I can't see anyone ever taking your Careful Climber feat because anyone who cares to invest in climbing will have better options, like Skill Focus. Basically, anyone who is going to burn skill points on climbing isn't going to need that feat.

At this point, I didn't want to make a crap load of feats that just cover the idea of disable device. Ill give you that no one really want to climb up stuff especially in combat.
As for what I've though from talking with others, I think the feat would work better if it expended the failure range for all skills by your ability modifier. Basically one feat covers everything. At this points its an idea.
I like the skill monkeys so I would take this and skill focus to hedge my bets.
