D&D 5E (2014) The Illrigger: Why I hate this class and love what it could have been.

Just an FYI, MCDM did not make up illrigger. It was the article "A Plethora of Paladins" from Dragon #106 that introduced it I believe. @Echohawk might know more. I believe the intent is a combination of "ill" (implying evil or demonic) and "rigger" (suggesting a skilled manipulator or someone who controls things from behind the scenes). Not saying it is a good name, but it has precedent and intent.

Dragon #106 pg 54 (A Plethora of Paladins):

this, beat me to the post

no comment on whatever class/subclass is being ranted about, but starting off decrying someone could change it to sound like racist word...ended my reading of the complaint. AUTOMATIC FAIL

That's probably the proper response to your dislike...and subsequent posts. Still, there is 11 pages after, so hopefully someone added something of value along the way...but to me, your memes applied right away! Good job, I hope you looked into that mirror. I'd bet you never do that, though. I just have a feeling.

Mod Note:
It is unclear why you thought making less than complimentary personal comments was going to be a good thing to do. It is certainly off-topic for the thread, and likely to cause an argument.

And if an argument breaks out, we'd look into it, and see you started it by making this personal.

We strongly recommend you focus on the content of the post, rather than the person of the poster.

Couldn't agree more about the name of this class: it's terrible for all kinds of reasons. Setting aside what some folks might do with it, it's also confusing and silly. I don't see a lot of players going "I wanna play an Illrigger!" If it's a Hell Knight, call it a Hell Knight (or Death Knight, or whatever).

Speaking of which, since you can just be a paladin of Asmodeus or whatever, I think the concept of the class is already covered in the core rules. Arkhan the Cruel, paladin of Tiamat was easy enough for Joe Manganiello to create using the core rules as is, and Sam Riegel just finished out Critical Role's last D&D campaign playing a paladin of Asmodeus.
