DungeonmaasterCal's lack of presence is somewhat explained in this thread. Though he has still been rather quiet.

I think we should give him a few days to show up. We just moved two days ago and he has been posting since his return, last time was 2 days ago. At least, I know I would want the same consideration. :)

Didn't know about that or else I would never have proposed it. Though I think someone needs to contact him. I withdraw that proposal then

Alright secondly, with the placement of the GMF in this hosted forum several questions have been asked of me (mainly on AIM) what my role is as founder and leader of the DMF. I woudl like to know what the counsil thinks my job should be. Should I be simply another member of the counsil like the rest of you? Should I fulfill a different job and simply oversee the hearings in the counsil? If so, what shoudl that job be? (you get the idea) Perhaps we need to create some kind of written out document describing the jobs of the counsil VS the leader if we seperate them. The floor is open for debate on this issue.
Well, sounds like a "constitution" to me. I believe CE should have a vote as all Council Members do, but the power to veto something he strongly disagrees with if the vote was close. He should also maintain the right to make as flashy an entrance as he wants. ;)

Rule Change

I propose that the rule number 2 "No discussion of any novels." Be changed to allow for threads to be opened for the sole purpose of novel discussion. The rule was originally set inplace to appease the Tyrants at the WotC boards. But now that they no longer reign over us I believe the rule should be altered.

Should discussions of novels be allowed?

The wizards don't allow discusion of novels

I certainly see no reason to bane novel discussion now someone can open their own thread if they want.

That's a tough one. The real question is: Where is the GMF going in the furture? What will it look like in a year?

Right now, having you break ties might be all that is needed. But a year from now, if this forum is really moving along and making a name for itself, then a leadership possition will have multitudes of functions. At the same time, this organization was your vision CE and that is important and needs to be recognized too. And quite frankly, I'm not sure how things will evolve to make that kind of decision.

I'm not sure how to answer your question, but I do know how to clarify the issue: I think we need the "plan" before we decide the structure of the GMF.

So, as an adjunct to this, I really think we need to consider two things every successful organization has:

1. Mission Statement.

We have one already, but we may want to give it the once over. A mission statement is what we show the world so they know what we intend to accomplish and how we are going to accomplish it. It's almost a marketing hook to promote ourselves and reach our intended audience.

2. Vision Statement.

Vision statments tells us what success looks like. It lets us know when we get to where we're going. It's the meassuring stick that tells us if we are doing things right.

A good way to think about the two is: A mission statement is what an organization shows others to inform and promote themselves. A vision statement is what an organization shows it's people internaly so they know if they are accomplishing the mission. Mission = External. Vision = Internal.

I think that if we address these two issues, the organizational needs of the GMF will be more apparent.

So I propose we look at these issues first.

nightcloak shows true foresight and wisdom and I wholeheartedly agree. let someone in the counsil prpos a mission and vision statement and we will edit it or toss it form a completely new one, whatever. That's a great idea.

In the meantime my vote goes with Xen on the novel issue.

Aye!...or rather....Argh!;)

I agree with NightCloaks assesment. So I will put out His proposition (as that is how I see it.) and lets have some disscusion on the matter. I think the Vision Statement must come befor the Mission statment though. NightCloak, do you have experience in matters such as these?

as to the 5th propisition... aye

EDIT: I have just put up a color coding system to make it eaisier to see what items are being voted on and what items are being discussed and so on.

EDIT 2: The 5th proposition needs 1 more Aye to pass and 4 more Nays to fail.

Ah... Yes I would. Not much directly, but I have some experience...

...

Normally, you would create a mission statement first. Most organizations or companies create a mission statement, then a vision statement to measure how well they are doing the intentions of the stated mission.

The proper business definition of a mission statement is: A written explanation of an organization's intentions and aims.

It is in effect, an enduring statement of what our purpose is, the scope of our "operations", who we seek serve, and why we are different from other like minded organizations.

Some organizations have a long mission statement, while others have a short and simple one. I've seen some that were a page long, and one that was one sentence (It was an investment firm: "To build wealth for our clients"). Walgreens is a good sized paragraph in length.[/factoid over]
