Counterspelling, the two ways are:
1. Ready an action to cast a spell that they're going to cast, when they cast a spell, make a spellcraft check to see which spell they're casting, then cast the same one to block.
2. Ready an action to cast dispel magic or greater dispel magic.
(these are the ways right, I hope I haven't forgotten anything.)
in otherwords, waste an action to stop theirs, a stalemate in otherwords, unless you mess up and then he gets to cast his spell.
I think there should be some feats, here are some ideas.
Counterspelling (metamagic): the character readies an action as normal for counterspelling, but instead of shooting the same spell to block another spell, all the caster has to do is morph a spell of the same or higher level into "counterspell energy" to counter the spell.
Improved counterspelling (metamagic): the same as counterspelling except that the spell may be one spell level less or higher
Speed Counterspelling (metamagic): The character no longer has to ready an action, just use on attack of oppurtunity (this cannot exceed one counterspell, even if the character has combat reflexes).
Arcane/Divine Counterspelling (metamagic): This feat lets the character counter that type of spell (divine or arcane, chosen when feat is taken)
I'm not sure whether these should be feats or a prestige class (the "counterspeller" (or something like that).
And this is just the very beginning, and I've thought about it ever since I read the STUPID counterspelling rules (in my opinion).
I also played magic cards, and the way counterspells worked in that was cool, so thats what got me thinking.
these seem to help wizards more than sorceres, but hey, wizards could use an edge.
