Couple ??? energy drained and moving through incorporals

First Post
So I'm a darkelf that happens to get level drained. So I drop from 3rd to 2nd level and we keep exploring the ruins getting in a number of combats. At this point 24 hours is up and of course I fail my save. Then at the end of the session the Dm awards Xp and everyone goes up to 4th level.

My question is what is my Xp total now and will a restoration spell help me at all? I had 12632Xp when I was drained and at the end of the session I gained 2500 Xp. My thinking is I would now I have 10500 Xp 8000 Half-way +2500 and a restoration would not help me but hurt me because it would only restore me to the highest level previosly attained with minimun Xp 10000. That correct?

Another question say I have 10x10 room covered in darknass each square contains a Spectre would a party member be able to move into that square? If you can't enter its space would not just walking around be a great way to find invisible enemies. I go left ok I go right ok I go back oh you can't there is something there eh? No AOO for spectre right its 50miss chance which to me seems a little dumb think spectre could see in the dark no?

Spectres can see in normal darkness.

SPECTRE
Medium Undead (Incorporeal)
Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft...

If it's magical darkness... well, that only provides shadowy illumination, not total blackness, in 3.5, so you can still see...

Eww you hypersmurf heh

Bigger question was can you push into a incorpoals space if you don't know its there? I didn't run the game so not sure what the darkness was but he ran it as a 50% miss chance then on top of that a 50% miss for being incorporeal that would stack no?. In the end we needed to flee but what if it was a fog or like a fog cloud or Obscuring Mist.

Off topic question for you. Can you threaten a creature that you can only harm with a critical hit because of say dam reduction? What if the creature was a golem and the person could not do over 10 dam?

Been reading these forums for a long time and I always enjoy and respect Smurfs replies.

Technically it would probably be more correct to first add the awarded XP and then calculate the loss.

So you would gain a level and then lose it immediately.

Maybe our house rule would work well for you, as it takes away all the wonkiness in XP calculating when losing a level: Losing a level simply translates into losing as much XP as the difference between your current level and the one before, i.e. if you are 5th level when you lose a level, you lose 4,000 XP (the amount it takes to go from 4th to 5th level). The number of XP is the same as (current level - 1) x 1,000 XP.

Note, that it is possible to actually not lose a level then, if you are within 1,000 XP to your next level up. One might consider losing 1,000 XP times your current level in order to avoid this, though then technically you would lose your *next* level (at least the amount of XP needed to attain it), not your current one. ;)

Bye
Thanee

P.S. you do not need to be able to harm something in order to threaten it.

Strictly as written, no; as a DM, I'd allow it, though you'd suffer an AoO (unless, as you've indicated, you had total concealment from the spectre).

I didn't run the game so not sure what the darkness was but he ran it as a 50% miss chance then on top of that a 50% miss for being incorporeal that would stack no?. In the end we needed to flee but what if it was a fog or like a fog cloud or Obscuring Mist.

Incorporeality doesn't provide a 50% miss chance. It provides a 50% chance to ignore damage from a corporeal source.

So yes, they're completely different, and they both apply separately.

Off topic question for you. Can you threaten a creature that you can only harm with a critical hit because of say dam reduction? What if the creature was a golem and the person could not do over 10 dam?

Yes.

Threatening is dependent on reach and having a melee weapon... that's about it.

You can try to enter a square if it's occupied by a creature. That just means that you immediately make a bull rush, grapple or overrun against it. It's no different if you don't know the creature is there, apart from penalties due to invisibility.

It's relevant to ask if you simply pass through the incorporeal thing, or perhaps have a 50% chance to do so. I believe not. An incorporeal being may pass through solid objects at will, that is, as a conscious action.
