Couple of Barbarian power questions...

Got a Barbarian in our new campaign doing some amazing damage, IMHO.

He's using an encounter power called Whirling Frenzy followed up by a theme power called Vicious Assault.

I was looking at these 2 powers and while WF seemed pretty straightforward, I'm not sure VA is being used correctly. The
power says the trigger is hitting an adjacent enemy. The player is saying that VA triggers off *each* enemy hit by WH, not just "an" adjacent enemy. So when he is in a group of foes, it's doing amazing damage for a lower level character.

So basically the question is, does VA trigger on each enemy in a multi-attack or just "an adjacent enemy".

Thanks guys.

Hmm, another quick question - Vicious Assault says it works on a melee attack.

Whirling Frenzy doesn't technically identify itself as a melee attack - it says its a close burst 1.

I'd tend to favor giving it to the player anyway, because it does say in Whirling Frenzy's description that you must be wielding 2 melee weapons.

It doesn't actually say melee attack though...

Thanks.

Then it's not a melee attack. It's a close burst attack. Those are both range descriptors, and it's either one or the other. For example, the overused Iron Armbands of Power bonus only applies to melee attacks. It doesn't apply to any other type of range. So they shouldn't apply to Fhirling Frenzy.

I'd tend to favor giving it to the player anyway, because it does say in Whirling Frenzy's description that you must be wielding 2 melee weapons.
You're the DM and it's your job to make the game as fun as possible. The obvious warning here is that the barbarian will be doing more damage than the game normally allows. Which can be fun, but might leave another striker in the party kinda envious. Or encounters might become too easy.

Yup, technically it won't trigger on a WF attack.

On the basic point, the power is triggered by hitting an enemy and it is an encounter power, so it can only trigger once per encounter. Even leaving the melee weapon thing aside it can only affect one hit. The PC would get the choice of WHICH enemy to trigger it on, but he can't pick more than one.

I can see letting him get away with combining it with WF. Honestly it is kinda nice, but if it is one time he's going to hit basically a couple guys with a 1W damage, and it isn't going to get a lot of bonuses, basically just enhancement generally. Its kind of a house rule but 'rule of cool' is a good rule ;)
