DUAL SYSTEMS

Hey all, Davis seems to have covered the meat of the Hermit's adventure in his previous posting, so I'll just let you know a little about form.

The Hermit is a new approach to modules for TLG. The module is d20, fully compatable with 3e and so forth. But it is also usable in Gary's own game the Lejendary Adventure RPG. The adventure reads much like any other adventure, however, we've used generic text for common words ... for instance, when you read The Hermit it you read "GM" instead of "DM" and "Characters" in place of PCs. As for stats, rules and monsters all of the LA stats are in grey boxes. When your playing the 3e game you have only to ignore the grey boxes.
Now you might be a little concerned about the amount of space required to do this, but truthfully, the space LA takes up is less than 5 pages or so. That particular system is rules light so it didn't require too much.

Come by the booth at Gencon and check it out. I can't remember our booth number ....hmmm, i'll post it later. Of course Gary will be signing at the booth and he'll be more than happy to sign new and old stuff.

Okay enough tangents.

As for placement. It is pretty generic, but with all adventures written "outside" of TLG we add on material that places the adventure in the world of Erde. I've written up some original material for the Erde setting and dropped it into the Hermit. The adventure takes place in the small Kingdom of Thumbria which lies south of the Eldwood and even beyond the Avar mountains.

If you have any questions about formatting or LA or Erde I'd be happy to tackle them.

Oh yeah, curiously enough, part of the adventure as conceived by Gary was difficult to work the 3e mechanics out. Our play testers, editors and Gary and TLG wrangeld over how to do this for quite some time and came up with a good solution (thanks to Larry Herzer) . . . at least we hope it is. I'm sure we'll get hammered some, some will like it and some won't even care. :) Come by the booth and check it out.

I put some visine in my big bad eye, blinked away the tears, clicked on the link and have to say, nice job on the cover, once again!

I am glad to see that Happy Troll, Ornery Troll, and Hairless Troll are doing well over on the Troll Farm where they grow plants mutated by troll dung and whiskey.

"SWEEEEEET!" a quote taken from the journal of happy troll.

Howdy!

I am glad that you are publishing THE HERMIT as a joint d20/LA module. It increases the audience for the product and allows us to use it in different gaming worlds, depending on the games we are running.

Will THE HERMIT also include suggested placement in the LEJENDARY EARTH setting?

I am looking forward to this and other dual d20/LA products. :)

Thanks!!

Mike

So is everyone glad that this is a joint product? I have to admit that I'm not too fond of dual stated books. Has little to do with the quality. I thought Way of the Ninja was great but I don't like them because they're taking space away from D20. Now it's mentioned that it's 5 pages taken out to make room for Lejendary. Good. But 5 pages out of 64 is way too much for my personal taste.

How about everyone else? Has anyone written to any of the companies doing dual-statted books to tell them to stop or does everyone think it's cool?

LOL Mystic! Todd is still wandering around the office muttering about "hairless troll, i'll show them hairless troll." And just to be sure.....that the Troll Dens (not troll farm) and those aren't plants, but SHROOMS LOL

:)

Thanks for the good word on the cover. And oh HEY! Congrads on the merger with Thunderhead. That is a great move on both parts. SWEETTT

Thank you two for the vote of confidence Optimizer!

I've been voting with my dollars. I haven't picked up a dual stat book yet, and don't expect I ever will (I buy $200-400 of D20 stuff a month, so it's not that I'm not buying in general). On the one hand, I think that's great that it helps companies support other RPG systems, but on the other hand, I don't play other systems, so why should I pay for it?

Setanta? Any relation to Santa? LOL just kidding.

Say, you should at least pick the hermit up and have a gander at it. Its really built for ease of play and the adventure is well worth having a look at it.

I don't know. $13.95 is not a bad price for a 48 page module (though it's not a good price). However, if as many as five of the pages are wasted on LA stats, I'm guessing I wouldn't be happy with the cost, especially given the fonts you guys tend to use. I'm also not a big fan of EGG's work (though I'd be more inclined to get one of his adventures than one of his source books). Now, I am interested in Dark Druids- no LA stats wasting pages, and I've liked Kuntz' Maze of Zayene series so far.

HOLY CHRISTMAS!!

48 pages my friend? DOH!

The Hermit has 64 pages, with two color inserts!

This for $13.95
Dark Druids is 64 pages for $11.95
St. Anton's Fire is 48 pages for $10.95

Oh yeah, don't judge TLG's Font, text density by CC. Each product stands alone, but almost all of them come in at 10 font. These three puppies do as does the Heart of Glass.

I shall eat my rice crispies now . . .:)
