Thanks for all your replies.

In the upcoming friday session, I'm going to do a lengthy combat discussion with the players. Giving them tips what they could have done in the battle (group tactics, prepared spells, abilities,...), what they could have done if they had prepared other spells (Dismissal, GMW,...) and what is the best equipment if you want to defeat high DR creatures (high +X, Sure Striking,...) and what was already good in the battle (tripping, Displacement,...). Many of your tips will come in really handy, thanks again.

We had a little taste of this. The DM that picked up a campaign after me had us fighting a Huecuva (or is it Heucuva?), a type of undead cleric that has DR of 15 or 10 / silver. As a new DM he didn't know that in 3e +1 weapons can harm silver Dr's.. it was one hell of a battle!

I think you mean it was one huecuva battle.
