Craft Contingent Spell

Greetings,

normally when a spell caster manufactures a magic item etc, they may have a "guest" cast the required spells for them.

Would this also hold true for Craft Contingent Spell? For example can a Wizard with the feat have a cleric cast a spell for him?

TIA

So long as the cleric sets the caster level.

Keep in mind the feat is a prereq. for item creation, so if it's met, yer good.

As an aside: My Clr 21 had a bunch of these (mostly 1st and 2nd level spells). They are *very* handy, even at high level, and especially useful against some truly nasty spell combos.

Not required.

The creator sets the caster level.

Helpers may provide one or more prerequisites.

The wizard may be the creator, set the caster level, and pay the XP cost, while the cleric provides one or more prerequisites (the spell being crafted into a continegency).

Yea, I see no problem with letting CCS work like other item creation feats in this regard. Be warned though, this is one of those spells that is much more powerful in the hands of NPCs and could lead them to being more powerful than you intended if you aren't careful. However, it is perfect for arch-villains (like the Boneheart in Greyhawk) who you don't want the PCs to be able to kill easily. A cleric with contingent heal and true resurrection is a nasty site to behold.

PC: So I deal 59 points of damage with my last attack.
DM: The evil high priest falls dead to the ground under the weight of your blow.
PC: Alright we win!
DM: And then stands up, completely healed and casts destruction on you.
PC: WTF!

It's clear, then, that the caster level is completely separate from the spell being crafted into the item? (Other than the "must be high enough to cast".)

True. Other than when the other person is me. Luckily, in this case, I agrre with Patryn, so you can listen to him after all ;)
